Legal System

Aruba's legal system is based on Roman law. Our law is in many respects similar to Dutch law. Justice is administered in the name of the Dutch Queen. The judiciary consists of professional judges appointed for life by the Queen.

The court system consists of (i) a Court of First Instance in Aruba (this is also the case in Curacao, St. Maarten & the BES islands (Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba)), (ii) a joint Court of Appeals for Aruba CuraƧao, St. Maarten and the BES-islands (Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba), and (iii) the court of last resort, the Supreme Court of the Netherlands in the Hague.
